Hulu and Spotify Expand Bundled Video and Music Offer to Anyone

Hulu and Spotify came together last year to offer a bundled video and music deal, Spotify Premium for Students, targeting undergraduate college students. That bundled deal has now been opened to anyone, albeit at a higher price point.

Spotify Premium, Now With Hulu bundles Hulu’s $7.99 OTT video subscription with Spotify Premium’s $9.99 music subscription for $12.99 per month, for a monthly bundled savings of $8. That’s significantly higher than the student deal, which offered the same bundle for the disruptive price of $4.99 per month.

The Hulu portion offers Hulu’s ad supported version of their SVOD OTT service. It does not feature Hulu’s live-TV OTT streaming service.

“Based on the outstanding performance of the Spotify and Hulu student package, it’s clear that consumers love to combine their music and television experiences together,” said Tim Connolly, SVP, Head of Distribution and Partnerships at Hulu in a press release. “Hulu and Spotify are brands that are defining how fans connect with entertainment in the future, and we are excited to expand our partnership to bring this combined package to all existing and new Spotify Premium subscribers.”

By way of comparison, a basic Netflix monthly subscription is $7.99 and an Apple Music monthly subscription is $9.99. This Hulu and Spotify bundled offer does offer some value at $13 for both and will be interesting to watch and see if it gains wide appeal, causing digital and legacy competitors alike to respond.
