Verizon Fios gigabit service now has an extra perk, a free year of Amazon Prime, the company announced yesterday. Just in time for holiday shopping, the offer extends to both new and existing Amazon Prime subscribers.
In addition to the many Amazon shopping benefits, including ‘free’ two-day shipping for most Amazon purchases, Amazon Prime gives customers access to its streaming Prime Video service. Unlike one of its main competitors, Comcast, Verizon offers unlimited data for its Fios home internet service and encourages streaming video usage. Comcast caps usage at 1 TB per month.
Verizon Fios gigabit pricing starts at $80/month unbundled. The Amazon Prime deal is worth about $119. The promotion also adds a free Amazon Echo for customers who opt for the triple play and a two-year agreement.
Verizon is in serious battle with Comcast and others for residential broadband. The company added a respectable 54K net new Fios broadband customers in 3Q18. But Comcast had a monster quarter, its best 3Q in ten years, adding 334K residential broadband subscribers.
Verizon is testing a series of broadband promotional offers. It’s recently launched 5G fixed wireless product, 5G Home, offers a free Apple 4K TV streaming media device, as well as three months of YouTube TV.
