Nokia Expands Fiber and Wi-Fi 7 Services with New Offerings

This week, Nokia has unveiled two new offerings designed to expand both their fiber and Wi-Fi 7 services.

The company’s Lightspan MF-8 is a new fiber solution that Nokia says can deliver 10/25/50 Gbps speeds and future 100G PON services. The MF-8 is designed for mid-sized deployments of residential and mission-critical industry 4.0 services and applications.

Nokia also launched the Beacon 19, a new Wi-Fi 7 gateway designed to provide seamless, high-capacity mesh networking. A tri-band device, the Beacon 19 offers up to 19 Gbps of Wi-Fi capacity.

According to Nokia, the MF family of fiber solutions also enables advanced network automation and is SDN-programmable to drive AI/ML applications and modular software.

Nokia’s Lightspan MF-8 uses a Quillion chipset to provide capacity and a wide range of residential and non-residential broadband services. It can be deployed across a range of locations, from cabinets to central offices and data centers. The new MF-8 further extends Nokia’s Lightspan multi-gig fiber portfolio, which ranges from the small MF-2 to the large MF-14 fit for massive delivery of 25G PON services and beyond.

The MF-8 will be shown for the first time at the Network X convention in Paris from October 8-10 and will be available globally for shipment.

“With the new Lightspan MF-8, we are bringing all the great features of the Lightspan family, including unmatched six-nines availability — which is unique in the industry,” said Nokia Vice President of Broadband Networks Geert Heyninck in a prepared statement.

“In addition, the Lightspan family matches up with our new Altiplano domain controller, designed to help operators move towards autonomous networks. The combination of 25/50/100G readiness, mission-critical availability, and automation ensures that our customers are ready for the future.”

According to Nokia, Beacon 19 incorporates Wi-Fi 7’s full capabilities, and supports multi-link operations (MLO), enhancing connection speeds by allowing devices to simultaneously send and receive data across different frequency bands and channels.

Nokia’s new Beacon 19 is powered by its Corteca software, which works end-to-end, from applications embedded in the device, through the home, and into the cloud. It employs open industry standards (TR-369, EasyMesh).

“WiFi 7 is a pivotal new technology that will power the connected home of the future. The Beacon 19 Wi-Fi 7 gateway is designed to help service providers make sure multi-gigabit speeds reach every corner of the house,” said Nokia Head of Wi-Fi for Fixed Networks and Broadband Devices Justin Doucette.

“Combined with our Corteca software, built-in TR-369 support for management, and open framework, it makes managing devices in the home much simpler. This means providers can easily optimize Wi-Fi, offer new services, and ultimately give their customers a fast, reliable, and seamless broadband experience”

These new fiber and Wi-Fi 7 service offerings from Nokia follow other product announcements made earlier this summer.
