Service provider Brightspeed has introduced a combined service that offers symmetrical 8 Gbps and Wi-Fi 7 to 89 communities.
The service will expand to more communities through next year, according to the press release. Pricing starts at $89.99 per month and includes the Wi-Fi 7 router.
In addition to the symmetrical 8 Gbps service and Wi-Fi 7, the Brightspeed service will feature white-glove setup including network checks, optical equipment placement, and onboarding. The service also offers customers unlimited data and a price lock.
Brightspeed is active in 20 states and serves more than 7.3 million homes and businesses.
“With 8 Gig fiber with Wi-Fi 7, Brightspeed is delivering the most advanced internet package on the market,” Brightspeed Executive Chairman and CEO Michael Combes said in a press release about the 8 Gbps/Wi-Fi 7 service.
“This isn’t just speed for speed’s sake. It’s about providing the infrastructure required for the next wave of connected applications, from immersive augmented reality and virtual reality application experiences to AI-driven home automation.”
Both speed and flexibility are vital. In June, Brightspeed and Calix said that they successfully tested 50G PON alongside XGS-PON and GPON on the same optical distribution networks (ODNs). The trial was conducted at the Brightspeed Technology Advancement Center and featured the Calix Broadband Platform, which includes the Calix Cloud.
Brightspeed is likely to have a lot more places to flex its muscles, at 8 Gbps and beyond. Last week, the company posted an article about its fate in the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program. In all, the company won more than $528 million across 17 states.
Most recently, Brightspeed was approved for $181,064,376 to reach an additional 90,852 homes and businesses in Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, and South Carolina.
