With its continued growing focus on business services, it’s only natural to see Windstream launch a business services blog, right? Windstream is following in a long line of service providers who now count separate business line focused blogs and other social media initiatives as effective corporate communications and marketing tools.

According to Windstream, the new blog is designed to “…provide businesses with helpful articles and updates on the hottest topics including cloud computing, data centers, voice and data services, MPLS networking, reducing communication expenses and selecting a new communication system.”

The new blog adds to Windstream’s social media strategy for business services, which already includes a @WindstreamBiz Twitter feed, a Windstream Business Facebook page and a WindstreamBiz YouTube channel.

Why the social media approach? The simple answer is go to where your customers are, rather than trying to pull them to you. By engaging customers in the social media circles they frequent, Windstream, and other service providers who follow this strategy, potentially gain significant ROI for these efforts.

For business services, social media tools allow service providers like Windstream to build thought leadership around important topics that are the future of the business. Issues like cloud computing, data centers, and metro Ethernet are new and emerging. Smart service providers will position their company and brand as a leader with these emerging trends and social media tactics are one of the most effective ways to do it.
