Fiber-based service provider Highline continues to expand in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with the acquisition of the fiber assets and ISP business of 906 Technologies LLC.
“Highline is thrilled to welcome the 906 Technology internet customers and outside plant and construction employees to our family. Our commitment is to match and exceed the exceptional internet experience established by 906 Technologies in Marquette County,” said Highlight President and General Manager of Midwest Markets Bruce Moore in a press release.
The press release did not include any details about the transaction.
Highline says that it has been in the telecommunications sector for 127 years, and has built, owned and operated fiber for 27 years. In addition to Michigan, the company is active in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Texas, and Georgia.
Highline and 906 Technologies apparently like doing business with each other. In January, the companies completed a similar deal in the Upper Peninsula. That one focused on Marquette County.
In June 2024, Highline said it was in the process of making fiber broadband available to about 1,200 residents in Watersmeet Township, Michigan.
In September 2023, Highline completed construction in the area of Michigan known as “The Thumb.” The deployment offered access to more than 8,000 households in Lapeer, Sanilac, St. Clair, and Tuscola counties.
The project was financed by the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund. The 823-mile fiber program must be finished by the end of 2027.
In a deal outside of Michigan, in July 2024, Highline acquired Internet Management Services (IMS), a company active in southeast Texas. IMS used a mix of fiber and fixed wireless broadband to provide services to 21 towns and cities in southwest Texas.
