SIP trunking adoption is the primary driver for enterprise SBC sales. grew 88 percent in 2011 over 2010 levels.

Infonetics Research forecasts the global enterprise SBC market to grow to $527 million in sales in 2016.

For service providers, the importance might be found in the fact that SBC shipments correlate with adoption of SIP trunking and represent the replacement of legacy network protocols by enterprises. When SBCs are adopted by enterprises, it is a replacement for the gateways that have been used to bridge IP backbone networks with legacy local networks.
