Comcast Business Hikes Speeds, Extends DOCSIS 4.0 to Business Customers

The announcements made today by Comcast Business — Ultimate Speed for Business and limited rollout of full duplex, DOCSIS 4.0-based service — both involve faster speeds.

Ultimate Speed for Business now features faster download speeds for four existing tiers at no additional cost: Essential (download speeds move from 50 Mbps to 150 Mbps), Standard (100 Mbps to 300 Mbps), Performance (250 Mbps to 500 Mbps) and Advanced (500 Mbps to 800 Mbps).

Upstream speeds also have been increased for these tiers and for the Gigabit Extra and 2 Gigabit plans.

The company also said that its full-duplex DOCSIS 4.0 service is now available to business customers in select markets. The service was launched to residential customers in December in Atlanta, Philadelphia and Colorado Springs. It is now available to business customers in the same markets.

Full-duplex DOCSIS 4.0 increases the amount of spectrum within the coaxial portion of a cable broadband network, particularly on the upstream, giving Comcast the ability to support symmetrical multi-gigabit speeds.

The service will be launched in other markets during the next few years, the company said.

“For today’s businesses, a network that can’t keep up can mean missed opportunities and revenue. Comcast Business is committed to being the leading connectivity solutions provider for all businesses and is continually investing in and upgrading our network — making it faster, safer, smarter, and more reliable,” Christian Nascimento, vice president, connectivity and digital experience at Comcast Business, said in a press release about Comcast Business DOCSIS 4.0.
