Comcast is enabling new Xfinity internet customers to select a five-year price guarantee, the first time the provider has offered such a lengthy price lock.
Though the price lock lasts for five years, customers don’t need to stay with Xfinity for the length of the contract. They can cancel at any time without a penalty.
Prices start at $55 per month.
“We’re addressing two significant consumer pain points — rising costs and transparency — with incredible value and easy-to-understand pricing that is locked in for five years,” Steve Croney, Comcast chief operating officer, connectivity and platforms, said in a the announcement.
“Our new price guarantee removes complexity, and when our customers also take mobile, they get the nation’s largest converged network, which automatically delivers gig speeds wherever they go.”
With the Xfinity price lock offer, customers receive:
- Wi-Fi: The Xfinity Gateway provides bandwidth the company says can connect 100 devices or more, as well as access to Comcast’s Wi-Fi network at home and on the road
- Unlimited data
- Xfinity Mobile: One line at no cost for a year
- Gig speeds: Mobile customers have access to WiFi PowerBoost, which provides 1 Gbps when connected to Wi-Fi in and out of the home
- Ultra-low lag internet: The company began rolling out this feature last year. The technology is designed to reduce signal lag
- Cybersecurity protection: Customers with the Xfinity Gateway receive Xfinity Advanced Security, designed to protect the gateway from malware and other threats
- Parental controls: The controls, available through the Xfinity app, also test the connection to new devices as they join the network, pause Wi-Fi, set Wi-Fi schedules for family members.
The Comcast Xfinity announcement comes on the heels of the launch of a three-year price lock by Verizon.
