During the past year, Windstream has added 450 field technicians across 18 states. The new hires will help handle growing demand from residential and small business customers of Windstream broadband services, which are sold under the Kinetic name.
“Our significant network investments are enabling us to deliver our premium Kinetic services to more customers, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. In fact, we have now seen six consecutive months of consumer broadband growth through August,” Jeff Small, the President of Consumer and Small Business for Windstream, said in a press release. “Delivering faster Internet speeds to more customers is an important part of our continuing commitment to bridge the urban/rural connectivity divide for the communities we serve – creating jobs and improving the customer experience.”
The growth is expected to continue. The company says that it plans to add as many as 100 more technicians by the end of the year. At that point, the field force will be almost 3,000.
The hires are made necessary by good news from the company. Windstream said that July was the fifth consecutive month of broadband growth and that it added 2,300 subscribers in the second quarter of the year. That compares to losses of 22,000 Windstream broadband subscribers during the second quarter of 2017. The company says that the absence of a competitive service provider in 39% of its footprint and its investment in Project Excel – an initiative to improve broadband speeds – are key reasons the growth will continue into next year.
Kinetic is driving much of that growth. It has four elements:
- Kinetic Internet: Flexible plans on a reliable network with speeds of 25-100 Mbps or higher for streaming video, downloading music and photos and connecting with friends and family.
- Kinetic Gig: Ultra-fast speeds of 1 Gbps delivered over a 100 percent fiber-optic network, enabling the fastest access to all online entertainment and business needs.
- Kinetic TV: Access to entertainment content (TV shows, events & movies) at home or on the go.
- Kinetic Business Solutions: Customizable solutions that ensure business continuity, advanced communications and maximum reliability for small and medium-sized businesses.
