Visionary Broadband Acquires MTWeb

Visionary Broadband has acquired Montana-based MTWeb. Visionary says that the deal will expand its presence in the village of Whitehall and provide expanded services in the Twin Bridges, Pipestone, and Cardwell areas. The areas impacted are in the central area of the state.

“With this acquisition, we can bring faster, more reliable internet to even more Montana residents,” Visionary Broadband CEO Brian Worthen said in the announcement of the MTWeb acquisition. “We’re also thrilled to retain the MTWeb team who bring their local expertise to Visionary.”

No details were provided on the deal except that MTWeb owner Joel Andrews and two employees will join Visionary Broadband, which was founded in Wyoming in 1994.

This was the second acquisition this year for Visionary Broadband. In mid-January, the company acquired Mountain Broadband, a service provider in Colorado.

At the time, no details of the transaction were given. The announcement said that Mountain Broadband would rebrand as Visionary Broadband, the acquired company’s team would be retained, and the new owners would roll out gigabit services in the Mountain Broadband footprint and the surrounding areas during the coming months.

Visionary Broadband said, in November 2022, that it would spend $100 million to build fiber internet in 20 communities in Colorado as well as Wyoming and Montana, where it also operates.

In March, it unveiled new residential fiber broadband connections reaching 6,498 addresses in Wyoming, 3,662 in Colorado, and 304 in Montana.

The expansion touches 13 communities, including Buffalo, Glendo, Sheridan, and Wright. In Colorado, 17 different communities were connected, including the new communities of Buena Vista, Cañon City, Chalk Creek, Leadville, Maysville, Poncha Springs, Salida, and Westcliffe. In Montana, homes in Hardin and Whitehall are now connected to gigabit fiber.
