More than 10,000 residential customers in Wyoming, Colorado, and Montana now have high-speed fiber broadband service because of the work of Visionary Broadband.
Founded in 1994 in Wyoming, Visionary Broadband is a rural internet provider serving five states. In 2024, the company concentrated on connecting communities that had been overlooked in the past due to economic and geographic barriers. The new connections include 6,498 homes in Wyoming, 3,662 in Colorado, and 304 in Montana — a total of 10,464 new connections.
“Access to high-speed fiber broadband is a necessity,” said Visionary Broadband’s CEO Brian Worthen, in a press release. “Visionary has made incredible progress to bring connectivity to rural areas that have been historically neglected.”
He explained that not only do rural and remote populations need access to reliable, high-speed internet for work, education, and healthcare, but also for emergency response. Fiber broadband provides the ability to conduct Wi-Fi calls over an internet connection, which helps people overcome unreliable cell coverage to call 911 for an emergency.
The new residential fiber broadband connections in Wyoming span 13 communities — including Buffalo, Glendo, Sheridan, and Wright — for the first time. In Colorado, 17 different communities were connected, including the new communities of Buena Vista, Cañon City, Chalk Creek, Leadville, Maysville, Poncha Springs, Salida, and Westcliffe. In Montana, homes in Hardin and Whitehall are now connected to gigabit fiber.
Visionary Broadband plans further fiber expansion into underserved areas in Colorado in 2025, including Coal Creek Canyon and Golden Gate Canyon.
The company’s growth over the past year included 11 newly connected or acquired communities in which it hadn’t been present before. This is partly due to Visionary Broadband’s recent acquisition of Mountain Broadband, as reported in January. After rebranding Mountain Broadband to Visionary Broadband, the company said it planned to start rolling out fiber gigabit services in Mountain Broadband’s footprint, as well as move into surrounding areas.
