In their effort to reach consumers who have deep concerns about rising prices, wireless and internet providers have begun introducing price guarantees. T-Mobile is the latest to launch a price lock, with its announcement yesterday of two new plans with a built-in price guarantee for talk, text, and data for five years.
The two new T-Mobile plans with price guarantees are Experience More and Experience Beyond.
Experience More includes the benefits of T-Mobile’s Go5G Plus plan, with 60GB of high-speed hotspot data and the inclusion of T-Satellite with Starlink through the end of the year. It is priced at $5 less per line, T-Mobile said.
Experience Beyond includes the benefits of T-Mobile’s Go5G Next plan, in addition to more hotspot data, more data both in North America and abroad, and the inclusion of T-Satellite. The carrier said this plan gives customers more than $200 in added value for each line, while the cost of the plan stays the same.
With the company’s T-Mobile Starlink service, in areas without cellular service customers’ phones will automatically connect to Starlink satellites to fill in the coverage gap. T-Mobile Starlink uses Direct to Cell technology, which function like cellphone towers in space.
“With more than 560 satellites in orbit, T-Satellite is the first, largest and only wireless provider with a satellite-to-mobile network in the U.S. that automatically connects to existing phones,” T-Mobile said in the announcement of the price lock.
“Since 2020, people have seen more than a 20% increase on the price of everyday essentials. We know value and savings matter more than ever right now, and we’re giving customers just that with these new plans — in addition to peace of mind knowing the price of their plan will stay the same for the next five years,” Jon Freier, president of T-Mobile Consumer Group, said in a video announcement.
“At T-Mobile, we’ve always been focused on giving people the best value, network and experience — and our new plans deliver on this,” Freier said.
Metro by T-Mobile also lowered prices on its most popular plans, including a 20% cutback for families of four on Metro Flex Unlimited Plus. The new Metro by T-Mobile plans also include the five-year price lock.
The T-Mobile price lock is the next in a series of similar stories this month. Earlier in April, Verizon began offering a three-year price lock on all of its plans to both new and existing customers, and Comcast said it would begin offering new Xfinity internet customers a five-year price lock.
Just this week, Astound Broadband introduced a pricing structure with a price lock offer. Astound Broadband internet is set at $30 per month with a one-year price lock, or a two-year price lock for $35 per month.
