RUSHVILLE, Ind., Apr 5, 2010 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) — Omnicity Corp (OMCY 0.33, +0.04, +13.79%) , the Midwest’s largest fixed Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP), has purchased the assets of Bright Choice, Inc., a subsidiary of Consolidated Electric Cooperative (CEC), a major Rural Electric Cooperative located in North Central Ohio. The acquisition of the assets of Bright Choice represents Omnicity’s largest acquisition to date and is the first of several acquisitions that Omnicity plans to complete in 2010 in rural Ohio.
Greg Jarman, CEO of Omnicity commented, “We are excited about this milestone event and welcome the Bright Choice employees and customers into the Omnicity family. It furthers our relationship with CEC and our expansion into rural Ohio.” Omnicity was introduced to CEC by its Ohio partner, SZD Whiteboard, during the first round of the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act application process. CEC’s application was successful and was awarded funding to build a fiber optic middle mile network in Ohio. Omnicity plans to make use of this fiber optic network to support its wireless services in North Central Ohio and beyond.
CEC services more than 16,000 electric meters and the Bright Choice network increases the Omnicity footprint to 8 counties in Ohio. Jerry Lauer, President of CEC and Bright Choice commented, “We look forward to what the Omnicity team will do to add more broadband services to our area and will continue to bring the ‘Commitment to Community’ that has been a trademark of our company.”
