DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket subscribers will be able to watch games on the iPhone and iPod Touch, starting with the 2009/2010 season. Subscribers have to subscribe to the Superfan upgrade of the Sunday Ticket package, which costs an extra $100/year. Previously, only highlights of games were available via mobile phones. The package also allows online viewing of live games.
The DirecTV Supercast website only references Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch. No word on whether the mobile service will be extended to other devices. DirecTV stresses the mobile version “requires a strong Wi-Fi or 3G network connection for streaming.” Looks like a cell site or two will become considerably slower for data downloads on Sunday afternoons this Fall.
