May 23, 2016 – RICHMOND, Va. — Windstream (NASDAQ:WIN), a leading provider of advanced network communications, today announced a major expansion of its advanced metro fiber network in the Richmond area. Windstream’s expansion will provide the area’s growing business community with world-class fiber and fixed-wireless infrastructure that connects even more local data centers and commercial buildings with Windstream’s high-speed, highly available nationwide fiber network.
“Today’s announcement reflects a significant investment that Windstream is making in the Richmond area, including Short Pump, Glen Allen, West Creek Parkway, Midlothian and Mechanicsville,” said Brian Norton, regional president of Enterprise Sales for Windstream’s east region. “This project expands both our footprint and the Windstream services that are available to local customers – including fixed wireless service, unified communications, managed services, network security, business continuity, network solutions and cloud services. All provided with the support of a truly local team.”
Windstream’s expansion of its local metro fiber network and the addition of fixed wireless service will give Richmond-area companies direct connectivity to major markets across the country. It also will enable business customers to utilize the enterprise-class data, voice, network and cloud services that Windstream customers in other major markets use as the foundation of their technology strategy.
“Communication and connectivity is a critical part of business today, and Windstream’s expansion of its metro fiber network is great news for Richmond’s business community because it allows the faster delivery of information to our users and customers,” said Jeffrey Potter, chief technology officer at Davenport & Company. “Windstream’s investment will allow us to deliver richer content experiences and also improve our costs through competition with other providers. I’m excited to see next generation services like this begin to actualize in our community.”
Windstream is expanding local metro fiber networks across the country as part of an initiative that will support customers in the banking, financial services, legal services, education, healthcare, government, hospitality and retail industries, among others. Additional fiber expansions in markets such as Charlotte, Atlanta, Chicago and Nashville are planned throughout 2016.
Jeffrey R. Schroeder, senior vice president of Operations and Technology at TSRC, Inc., added, “Windstream’s fiber expansion in the Richmond metro market is exciting news for our business community here in Richmond.
