Nation’s fifth-largest carrier aggressively deploying ubiquitous Ethernet Business Services in-region and in competitive markets

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Hatteras Networks, the global leader in multi-service Ethernet solutions for enterprise access services and next-generation mobile backhaul, announced today that Windstream Corporation (Nasdaq: WIN), the fifth-largest carrier in the United States, has standardized upon and deployed a Hatteras Networks solution for Ethernet service delivery over both copper (EoC) and Time Division Multiplexing (EoTDM) infrastructure. The unified Hatteras Networks solution, the HN6100, delivering up to 40 Gbps of bandwidth, enables delivery of any Ethernet service over any media.

“The Hatteras Networks solution offered a reliable, flexible option for quickly deploying Ethernet services to our business customers,” said Bill Bellando, vice president of network services, Windstream Corporation. “In addition, we were very pleased with the service and support we received from Hatteras during the network upgrade and deployment.”

Headquartered in Little Rock, Ark., Windstream offers IP-based voice and data services and advanced phone systems and equipment to businesses and government agencies, as well as phone, high-speed Internet and high-definition digital TV services to consumers, via three million access lines in mostly midsize, small and rural communities across 21 states. Windstream’s portfolio of next-generation Ethernet Business Services, including advanced Internet access and virtual private networks (VPNs), is available in more than 1,000 Windstream exchanges covering approximately 98 percent of its ILEC territory.

The Hatteras Networks solution supports all MEF service models, extending Windstream the flexibility to swiftly roll out virtually any service including Windstream’s business data services, transparent local area networks (LANs), wholesale offerings and voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). At the heart of Hatteras Networks’ unified solution is the award-winning HN6100, the industry’s first modular, multi-service platform designed to enable rollout of any carrier Ethernet service, over any media, via any port or slot, from one compact, 40 Gbps, two-rack-unit, ultra-dense chassis. “Zero-touch” Hatteras Networks customer premise equipment (CPE), meanwhile, allows Windstream to deploy and update services more quickly with reduced opportunities for technician errors.

“With deployment of our solution, Windstream has positioned itself to cost-effectively pursue Ethernet service revenue opportunities throughout its service footprint today,” said Kevin Sheehan, CEO, Hatteras Networks. “Our modular solution affords Windstream the long-term flexibility to pursue a gradual, pay-as-you-grow strategy while ensuring that its customers stay availed to the leading edge of Ethernet service innovation.”
