Rural broadband consolidator Vyve Broadband has acquired the commercial arm of ATC Broadband serving the Vidalia, GA area. The network serves the cities of Swainsboro, Lyons and Vidalia as well as Emanuel, Toombs and Montgomery counties.
Financial and other details of the transaction were not revealed.
“This acquisition marks a significant milestone for Vyve Broadband,” Vyve Chief Commercial Officer Ed Butler said in a prepared statement. “We are delighted to welcome the commercial customers of ATC Broadband into the Vyve family. Our dedication to delivering cutting-edge technology and exceptional customer service will ensure that these businesses continue to thrive in today’s competitive landscape.”
Vyve has focused, to a large extent, on cable providers, but it isn’t clear what type of infrastructure ATC operates in the areas that Vyve is acquiring.
This was not the first Georgia transaction involving ATC Broadband this year. In February, southeast regional service provider LiveOak Fiber said that it would buy fiber assets in Glynn and Camden counties from ATC Broadband. The counties are in the Golden Isles region in the southeastern part of the state. LiveOak Fiber was founded several years ago with an initial investment of $150 million from InfraRed Capital Partners.
The acquisition closed in May.
On the residential side, Vyve Broadband said in May 2022 that it would increase residential speeds without charging subscribers more for the upgraded service. The company’s new tiers were set at 105 Mbps download/20 Mbps upload; 200 Mbps download/30 Mbps upload; 500 Mbps download/40 Mbps upload and “Vyve Gig”––presumably, 1 Gbps––download/50 Mbps upload. The company said that in most cases the increases would double customers’ previous speeds.
