Vermont Telco Selects Juniper for Stimulus Project

SUNNYVALE, CA (Marketwire) – Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) today announced that Waitsfield and Champlain Valley Telecom (WCVT), an independent service provider delivering voice and data communications services to Vermont since 1904, has deployed Juniper Networks routing and switching solutions to enable reliable, higher-speed telecommunications services to its growing subscriber base while also increasing service delivery times with a lower total cost of network ownership.

“As a family run regional telecommunications company, we built our business by delivering reliable, cost-effective services and by continually investing in our infrastructure to stay ahead of our customers’ evolving needs and expectations,” said Gregg Haskin, president & CEO for WCVT. “Juniper’s solution fit our requirements for reliability, ease of network management and lower total cost of ownership in a configuration that delivers higher speed Internet services today while charting a course for even higher speed services in the near future.”

The network upgrade, funded in part by the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program, will deploy a 10 Gigabit Ethernet network core that will support high-speed services to WCVT’s residential and business customers across its more than 650 square miles of service coverage. Leveraging the Juniper Networks MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers with support for robust MPLS services, WCVT can more effectively support the rapid delivery of all types of communications services across its network.

“WCVT is making the investments in its infrastructure that will keep pace with the service expectations of its business and residential customers, while also preparing for the arrival of even larger bandwidth demands from new social and video applications that are increasingly becoming a part of our daily lives,” said Mike Marcellin, vice president of systems strategy and marketing for Juniper’s Platform System Division. “Broadband service delivery to rural areas is an excellent investment in economic growth and Juniper further optimizes that investment with solutions that scale while delivering unmatched network economics from improved reliability and rapid service delivery.”

In addition to the MX Series, WCVT has also deployed the Juniper Networks EX4200 Ethernet Switches with Virtual Chassis fabric technology, which allows up to 10 switches to be interconnected and operated as a single logical device. The complete solution is powered by Juniper’s single source operating system, Junos, which further reduces network complexity and increases reliability.
