This investment will help empower the next generation of entrepreneurs and creative thinkers in Cupertino and across the Valley.”

“We are proud to be the first city on the west coast to launch the AT&T GigaPower network, bringing the speed of fiber to homes and businesses” said Cupertino Mayor Rod Sinks. “People come to Cupertino from around the world, and want to connect with families and culture in their home countries, as well as with work colleagues and customers worldwide. We place high value on education and access to information, and GigaPower enables more and improved services, from remote learning to telemedicine to entertainment. ”

The success of the first AT&T GigaPower market in Austin led to a major expansion beginning in 2014. AT&T is considering expanding its all-fiber network to up to 100 cities and municipalities across 25 markets. U-verse with AT&T GigaPower is currently available to many consumers and small businesses across parts of the Austin, Cupertino, Dallas, Fort Worth, Kansas City, Raleigh-Durham and Winston-Salem markets. AT&T has already announced plans to deliver AT&T GigaPower in parts of 10 additional markets – Atlanta; Charlotte and Greensboro, N.C.; Chicago; Houston; Jacksonville, Fla.; Miami; Nashville, Tenn.; St. Louis and San Antonio.

Frost & Sullivan recently recognized AT&T for its leadership in high-speed Internet services, awarding the company the 2015 North American Competitive Strategy and Innovation Leadership of the Year Award for Broadband. The analyst firm praised AT&T for its “aggressive pursuit of higher bandwidth access” for customers through its AT&T GigaPower network initiative.

Additionally, AT&T has committed that upon approval of its proposed acquisition of DIRECTV, the company will expand the AT&T GigaPower network to an additional 2 million customer locations. All of these 2 million locations are over and above what the company announced in 2014.

AT&T has invested in California communications networks, people and local communities for 137 years.  Between 2012 through 2014, AT&T invested $475 million in its best-in-class wireless and wired networks in San Jose, driving a wide range of upgrades to enhance reliability, coverage, speed and performance for residents and business customers.  AT&T employs more than 34,000 people across the state.
