Surf Internet Launches Fiber Broadband in Indiana Communities

La Porte, Indiana — December 14, 2023 — Surf InternetSM announced the connection of the first customers to their fiber-optic network in the northwest Indiana communities of Lake Village and Kouts. To celebrate the two communities going live with high-speed internet, Surf leadership paid a visit to their newest customers, congratulating them on being the first to enjoy advanced connectivity.

“Northwest Indiana is a great success story,” said Surf CEO Gene Crusie. “With so many small communities in the area, we were able to work hand-in-hand with local leadership to bring in grant money along with our own private funding. Together, we’re helping those who would truly be unreachable without a significant capital outlay. These residents are finally getting high-speed access to the internet they deserve.”

Nicole Rindfuss is the first customer to be connected to Surf’s cutting-edge fiber-optic network in Lake Village. “With incredibly fast speed, we don’t have to worry about who is doing what,” Rindfuss said. “Surf Internet has helped destress our household!”

Her family’s home is among the first of roughly 1,000 addresses Surf will connect yet this year across the two communities, with further expansion to serve over 2,000 homes in 2024. Surf is investing nearly $1 million of its own capital for the projects and has leveraged $600,000 of Next Level Connections (NLC) grant funding to connect to the area’s most difficult to reach addresses.

Residents who are connected will enjoy up to 1 gig download speeds, with the fiber infrastructure allowing Surf to introduce multi-gig speeds in the future, giving residents even faster options to suit their connectivity needs.

The work in northwest Indiana is part of Surf’s overall commitment to build an advanced fiber-optic network serving rural communities across the Great Lakes region of Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan.
