AccessParks, which provides broadband connectivity to RV parks, national and state parks, and manufactured housing communities received additional funding today from M/C Partners, a private equity firm focused on the digital infrastructure and technology services sectors. The amount of the investment was not disclosed, but was described as “significant.”
AccessParks’ campground division provides outdoor connectivity using fiber-optic, microwave, 5G, and Wi-Fi services. The manufactured housing division uses similar technologies to bring gigabit service to residents of manufactured housing communities. The company said that it provides broadband connectivity to more than 30 million annual guests and residents.
AccessParks expects to use the money for accelerated growth across the company’s business lines and capital for strategic acquisitions.
One competitor providing broadband to manufactured homes is Kwikbit, which focuses on providing fixed wireless internet service to manufactured home communities, more commonly known as trailer or mobile home parks.
Kwikbit CEO Joe Costello noted that most of the 6 to 7 million manufactured homes in the United States — which house 20-25 million people — are underserved or unserved by broadband.
A common way to connect to the internet in these communities is with mobile phones; fiber network operators often exclude mobile home parks from their fiber network build-outs due to ability of some residents to pay for fiber.
Previous M/C Venture Partners’ telecom investments include Everstream, Lightower, and Zayo.
“The M/C Partners team brings incredible knowledge and resources that will allow us to continue to push the envelope in technology, performance, and support,” said Tim Rout, Access Parks founder, in a prepared statement. “We are thrilled to execute further technological innovations that will delight customers as we continue our rapid growth that cements our role as the market leader.”
Rout and the existing management team will work with Alan Rosenberg, who has joined AccessParks as CEO.
