Michigan State University Makes Progress on Gigabit Project

Jul 12, 2012  — (East Lansing, MI)— Today, a coalition of economic development organizations and Michigan State University unveiled their next steps forward in increasing ultra high-speed broadband networks in the Greater Lansing region as part of the national Gig.U initiative. Among other actions, DTN Management, the owner and manager several apartment and commercial properties in the Greater Lansing area, is collaborating with connectivity provider Spartan Net to provide all of their residential complexes, totaling more than 8,500 customers, with gigabit level broadband networks and services. Further, the community is collaborating to create a “Gigabit Certified” building program.

“It’s great that this broad coalition is bringing the Greater Lansing area a strategic bandwidth advantage that will help drive economic growth and a new generation of opportunities. While each Gig.U effort has to reflect local conditions, this coalition has developed creative approaches to improving the math for new investment that we know will accelerate new deployments in Lansing and elsewhere.  This effort sets a outstanding example  of how dedicated local leadership can spark an broadband upgrade.”
