Mereo Networks Acquires DISH Fiber

Mereo Networks, which offers bulk connectivity for multifamily communities, acquired DISH Fiber Internet LLC in a deal that closed earlier this week.

DISH Fiber Internet is a bulk fiber internet and video content provider serving more than 25,000 residential units in 33 states.

Mereo Networks says that, along with the acquisition of DISH Fiber, it will rebrand to Mereo Fiber. The company now is a bulk connectivity provider to more than 80,000 residential units. The plan is to increase its footprint to 37 states. It says the acquisition will strengthen its base in the Sun Belt, Mountain West, and Great Lakes regions.

No financial details of the transaction were released.

“The acquisition of DISH Fiber represents a transformational milestone for our business,” Mereo Fiber CEO Matt Ostrega said in a press release.

“DISH Fiber is highly complementary to Mereo and allows us to pair their impressive scale with our industry-leading customer service model. Our combined capabilities position Mereo Fiber to set a new bar for what communities should expect from a connectivity partner – performance, reliability, and personal service at every touchpoint.”

Mereo is headquartered in Phoenix. Macquaire Capital, Wave Division Capital and Freedom 3 Capital hold positions in the company.

Last September, DirecTV said it was acquiring EchoStar’s video distribution assets, which include DISH TV and Sling TV. At the time, DirecTV said EchoStar — which merged with DISH in January — would focus on its 5G wireless network. EchoStar merged with DISH in January.

In January 2024, the NTIA awarded almost $80 million for wireless research. Most of that money — $50 million — went to DISH for an Open RAN Center for Integration & Deployment (ORCID) that would be established at the company’s campus in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
