Lumen Technologies and Quantum Fiber today unveiled a low-cost internet plan designed for households that don’t currently subscribe to Quantum Fiber Access.
Dubbed the Simply Fiber Internet Plan, the program offers eligible households in Quantum Fiber markets up to 200 Mbps internet speed for $30/month plus applicable taxes and fees, including free installation, combined with 360 Wi-Fi, which delivers extended coverage throughout the home. New customers can combine the Simply Fiber Internet Plan with the FCC’s Lifeline discount.
The low-cost internet plan is available now, but is limited to new Quantum Fiber customers who participate in certain government assistance programs.
According to the announcement, customers in the following Quantum Fiber markets quality for the low-cost internet plan: Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona: Colorado Springs and Denver, Colorado; Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Naples, and Orlando, Florida; Boise, Idaho; Des Moines, Iowa; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Omaha, Nebraska; Las Vegas, Nevada; Portland, Oregon; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Seattle, Spokane, and Vancouver, Washington.
Affordable broadband programs are very important for many Americans. According to a report from the Benton Institute on Broadband & Society, half of U.S. households that benefited from the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) planned to either cancel or downgrade their broadband service after the ACP’s termination:
- 13% of those surveyed said they would likely cancel service entirely. Among households with combined incomes under $20,000, this rose to 18%.
- 36% said they would downgrade service and seek a less expensive option.
- 53% said it was already difficult to pay their internet bills, even with the ACP in place.
- 43% of respondents are what the Benton Institute called “subscription vulnerable, meaning they live at or near the poverty line, have had service disconnected due to difficulties paying their monthly internet bills, or express significant concerns about service affordability.
