A new Cloud Content Exchange from Level 3, announced today, is unlike anything any other company offers, a company spokeswoman told Telecompetitor in an email. The offering was developed to accelerate the process of sending large video and data files such as syndicated content and advertising files, targeting network broadcast and other media companies to move content to remote locations around the world, the company said.
“We are transporting content to and from end users directly to/from the online service provider,” said the Level 3 spokeswoman. “We establish a connection on send/receive commands, and then transport content over proprietary UDP high-speed data protocol… The Cloud Content Exchange is a true cloud-based solution with a focus on clients exchanging/ sharing content at high speeds and using a global cloud that sits on the Level 3 IP backbone.”
FOX Broadcasting already has beta tested the service. In today’s release FOX Vice President of Global Operations and Transmission Services Keith Goldberg said Fox and Level 3 worked together to develop the offering. Goldberg called the offering a “one-of-a-kind, secure solution that not only allows us to quickly transfer video clips, promos and other content internationally, but also provides extensive cloud storage capacity and a global network – an all-inclusive solution we couldn’t find anywhere else.”
Today’s announcement is the latest in a long string of announcement Level 3 has made about offerings targeting the broadcast industry. Meeting the needs of broadcasters has long been a specialty for the network operator.
