SMITHSON VALLEY, (January 6, 2015) — GVTC is at the halfway point of a project that will bring fiber network connections to more than 4,625 rooftops in its service area. In 2015, GVTC is scheduled to expand its fiber network to 2,298 locations throughout nine neighborhood areas. In 2014, GVTC completed work that delivered fiber to 1,078 rooftops in six subdivisions.
The majority of the work is taking place is in the Bulverde, Canyon Lake and Boerne areas. These additional fiber locations will be eligible for faster broadband speeds than currently available, including GVTC’s one gigabit connection service that the company launched in September 2014.
“This fiber expansion project enhances the communications products we deliver to thousands of our existing customers,” GVTC President and CEO Ritchie Sorrells, said. “It also strengthens the GVTC GigaRegion™ and enables our partner cities of Boerne, Bulverde and Gonzales to further leverage fiber technology to compete for economic development and enhance the quality of life for its residents.”
GVTC’s fiber expansion project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2015. GVTC customers will be notified when fiber connections are available in their area.
