Press Release

Portland, Maine – May 2, 2023 — VETRO, a provider of the market-leading, user-friendly cloud-native fiber management system has been selected as the system of record for what will be the nation’s largest broadband network. When complete, California’s 10,000-mile fiber network will enable affordable and reliable connectivity to unserved and underserved communities throughout the state.

Through the construction and connection stages and into the future, the network will require a powerful system to identify, map, and manage every single strand of fiber—each about the thickness of a hair—with precision. VETRO helps to fully optimize the business value of the network by radically simplifying the digitization, data visualization, and management of fiber assets.

“We’re excited to partner with California’s middle-mile broadband team to aid their efforts to accelerate the deployment of high-speed fiber to ultimately connect underserved and unserved communities throughout the state. The VETRO team is eager to contribute to this meaningful impact on people’s lives,” said Will Mitchell, VETRO CEO.

VETRO FiberMap is an intuitive network mapping and fiber management GIS platform. Built on an open technology stack, delivered in the cloud, and designed for true ease of use, VETRO’s mapping and fiber asset inventory software brings efficiencies to network owners, operators, and internet service providers (ISPs). VETRO replaces standalone GIS mapping tools and spreadsheets with a robust and managed mapping inventory of the network and connectivity. The open API architecture enables integrations with complementary technologies like business support system and operations support system (BSS/OSS), auto design, construction management, and more.

Once fully built, the middle mile network will serve as the fiber backbone connecting ISPs in local communities to the world, enabling economic development, digital equity, and a better quality of life. But to achieve the lofty goal of better connectivity, an extensive process of creating and comparing build, cost, and revenue scenarios must occur to ensure optimal deployment strategies.  The state has already embarked on its collaboration with VETRO by utilizing VETRO’s services to facilitate initial project stages, including training and network design.
