Governor Josh Stein just announced more than $58 million in Completing Access to Broadband (CAB) program projects to connect 10,076 households and businesses in 26 North Carolina counties to high-speed internet.
“Good partnerships between our counties, the state, and internet providers will connect North Carolinians,” said Governor Josh Stein. “I look forward to continuing to bring high-speed internet to every corner of the state so that people can communicate with family and friends, grow their business, or access telehealth services or educational opportunities.”
This most recent announcement will help Brightspeed extend its fiber network to the following counties: Bladen, Chowan, Columbus, Granville, Guilford, Halifax, Hoke, Martin, Northampton, Person, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin.
The N.C. Department of Information Technology’s (NCDIT) Division of Broadband and Digital Equity CAB program funds, together with the Growing Rural Economies with Access to Technology (GREAT) grants awarded to Brightspeed, provide approximately $244 million in funding to help connect nearly 108,000 North Carolina households and businesses across 55 counties to its blazing fast network. Between these grants, and the company’s own investment, Brightspeed is all-in on bringing its fiber-enabled network to nearly 909,000 locations in its home state.
