Ziply, 12 Others Poised to Share $133M in Oregon Broadband Funding

Ziply Fiber and 12 other entities are on tap to share $133 million in funding from the state of Oregon to cover some of the costs of deploying broadband to unserved and underserved areas. Ziply is poised to receive three awards totaling about $18.6 million.

The news came in the form of a notice of intent to award funding from the Oregon Broadband Office.

The company that is expected to get the most funding is Beacon Broadband, which is on tap to receive $194 million. Following Beacon Broadband are Jefferson County ($19.3 million) and Farmers Mutual Telephone Company ($18.9 million).

The Oregon Broadband Office received 67 applications requesting a total of $445 million. Awards were made based on a scoring system that considered factors such as social vulnerability, the number of unserved locations and service affordability.

Awardees are required to deploy service at speeds of at least 100 Mbps upstream and downstream.

Funding for the program came through the federal Capital Projects Fund.

  • Douglas Services Inc. (two awards totaling $11 million)
  • Farmers Mutual Telephone Company ($18.9 million)

  • Pioneer Telephone Cooperative ($12.6 million)
  • Ziply Fiber (three awards totaling $18.6 million)
  • Blue Mountain Networks ($6.5 million)
  • Casco Communications Inc. ($10.2 million)
  • Stimulus Technologies of Oregon ($1.2 million)
  • Siuslaw Broadband, LLC ($98,209)
  • United Telephone Company of the Northwest ($4.2 million)
  • Oregon Telephone Corporation ($1.7 million)
