LOUISVILLE, Colo. – July 8, 2010 – Zayo Group, a provider of telecom and Internet infrastructure services, announced today the formation of a new business unit, Zayo Fiber Solutions (ZFS). ZFS will design, build, and manage unlit fiber-optic networks (or dark fiber services) for wholesale, enterprise, and government customers.
“Nearly all wireless, telecom, content, and Internet service providers utilize fiber to run certain aspects of their underlying networks,” explained Matt Erickson, President of Zayo Fiber Solutions. “ZFS helps its customers extend the depth and breadth of their fiber network infrastructure.”
On July 1, 2010, Zayo completed its acquisition of AGL Networks (AGL). Dark fiber based services made up 100% of AGL’s revenue. On June 30, 2010, Zayo announced it signed a definitive agreement to acquire American Fiber Systems Holding Corporation (AFS). A significant portion of AFS’ revenue comes from dark fiber services. In addition to continuing to provide dark fiber services in the AGL and AFS markets (pending completion of the AFS acquisition), ZFS will offer dark fiber services across much of Zayo Group’s fiber footprint. ZFS will also provide custom built fiber networks in markets that Zayo does not currently serve.
“Zayo Group’s mission is to provide essential infrastructure to carriers and service providers as they cope with the ongoing explosive growth of the Internet,” said Dan Caruso, President and CEO of Zayo Group. “The addition of ZFS and its singular focus on dark fiber adds to our capabilities to provide these core infrastructure services.”
