Unlike its large tier 2 telco brethren CenturyLink, Frontier, and FairPoint, Windstream has decided against any type of mega-merger (at least for now) and has rather chosen strategic acquisitions like Iowa Telecom and NuVox.
Windstream CEO Jeff Gardner tells CNBC that his goal is to continue in this course, which allows him to diversify the company’s revenues, 53% of which now come from broadband and enterprise business services. Other strategies include applying for $238 million in broadband stimulus funding to help reach the 10% or so of subscribers they currently can’t reach with broadband. Watch his CNBC appearance below:
