Verizon execs are smiling because this type of offering helps support their expensive decision to go with a architecture. The FTTH strategy affords them the ability to pursue a high intensive bandwidth application like HD VOD. It also conceivably gives them a competitive advantage, especially over DBS competitors who can’t match an HD VOD experience any time soon.
