Yesterday, Middle Tennessee fiber broadband provider United Communications announced it has signed an agreement to acquire Loretto Telecom, marking the company’s fourth acquisition and continued expansion across the region.
The deal brings Loretto Telecom’s 20 employees and more than 8,000 customers in Lawrence County, Tennessee, under United Communications. When the transaction is complete, United Communications will serve 120,000 locations across 12 counties.
United has experienced significant growth over the past three years, more than doubling its connected homes and businesses through strategic acquisitions. The company currently offers premium services, including 8 Gbps fiber speeds, Wi-Fi 7 technology, and proprietary network management apps for residential and business customers.
“This is a proud moment for United, and we’re looking forward to welcoming Loretto Telecom into the United family,” said United Communications President and CEO William Bradford. “Their local presence and experience were major contributing factors to this acquisition, and we’re excited to combine our talents and resources to deliver world-class internet to Lawrence County.”
The transaction awaits final regulatory approval, expected by year-end 2025. No other details of the transaction were given in the press release.
United Communications plans to retain the Loretto Telecom brand name and grow its workforce to accelerate expansion throughout Lawrence County.
Both United Communications and Loretto Telecom share roots as rural telephone providers in Middle Tennessee, a heritage Bradford said creates a natural partnership. “We share more than geography—we share a responsibility to serve, invest, and uplift the region together,” he said.
Last year, United Communications partnered with Middle Tennessee Electric to expand a major fiber buildout they started in 2023. At the time, they were expanding a fiber build in Williamson County, Tennessee, and planned to reach 8,000 locations.
