November 9, 2022 – TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) is breaking ground on its fiber-optic build in Tomah, Wisconsin. The all fiber-to-the-premises technology will bring super high-speed data of up to 2Gig (2,000Mbps) to homes, 10Gig dedicated connections for businesses, as well as TV and phone options for all customers. The Madison-headquartered company recently announced its western Wisconsin expansion, which also includes Salem, Bangor, and Rockland. The projects will make TDS a new service provider all four communities.
“We’re excited to invest in more Wisconsin communities and bring the infrastructure of the future and a new, reliable service option to residents and businesses,” says Drew Petersen, senior vice president of Corporate Affairs for TDS. “We’ve seen first-hand the difference that fiber connections make to communities and are honored to be the ones bringing these high-quality connections.”
Construction is starting in Tomah, with services becoming available gradually as areas are finished. The build process includes laying underground fiber in the public utility easements in both neighborhoods and business parks. Postcards, letters, and door hangers will notify residents of work beginning near their address.
“The City of Tomah is excited to have additional communication options for city residents,” says Tomah Director of Public Works & Utilities Kirk Arity.
The Tomah fiber-network build will be the company’s second in Monroe County. TDS broke ground on its Sparta fiber network project earlier this summer. The company is actively constructing a fiber network in Onalaska, as well.
Unlike other technologies, TDS’s fiber internet service offers equal upload and download speeds and multi-gig service options. 2Gig is the highest speed currently available. TDS TV®+, the company’s full-featured TV product offers integration with popular streaming services, local and national networks, cloud DVR options, and the ability to start shows over. TDS will also offer phone packages.
In addition to these projects, TDS is also building fiber networks in Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, Altoona, Green Bay, and the Fox Cities. TDS has been doing business in the state for 53 years and serves customers in 32 states.
