TDS is expanding their hosted IP platform, managedIP into several new markets in Wisconsin. The managedIP product provides a hosted IP bundle of data and voice services targeting small and medium business (SMB) customers.

The value proposition to customers is buy the bundle and get Internet connectivity, as well as a feature rich advanced unified communications platform without the CAPEX expense or daily management burden. It’s a fast growing business opportunity in the SMB segment and one of the reasons we are seeing so much investment activity among service providers in data centers, middle mile fiber networks, and cloud infrastructure.

TDS tells Telecompetitor that as of December 31, 2010, they had just under 27,400 active managedIP work stations. By our estimation, TDS saw growth of 17% for the managedIP product line (based on # of managed IP work stations) in 4Q10. The product is now available in approximately 112 markets across 13 states.

As for expansion, TDS spokeswoman Cindy Tomlinson tells us, “Though we can’t guarantee coverage to all of our markets, we are continuously working on options to provide this to as many markets as possible. As opportunities arise, and where the business case is solid, TDS will continue to expand managedIP.”

We’ve outlined TDS’ ongoing strategy to grow their enterprise business, which includes active M&A pursuits for data centers and cloud infrastructure. That strategy will continue according to Tomlinson. “As it relates to TDS’ strategy regarding data centers and hosted cloud based services, we will continue to look at growing, through both expansion of existing facilities and acquisition, ” she says.
