April 13, 2022 — Madison-based TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) plans to construct an all-fiber network in Chippewa Falls and Altoona to connect more than 10,000 total area addresses to super-fast internet. Residential customers can subscribe to up to 2,000Mbps (2 Gigabits) upload and download speeds and businesses can choose dedicated connections of up to 10Gig.

TDS expects to break ground in this spring and services will become available in phases as the build progresses. Beyond the fiber-fast internet, TDS’ fiber networks will also bring residents in both communities a new choice of TV and voice service provider.

TDS fiber networks offer residential customers symmetrical internet speeds, meaning that upload and download speeds are identical. A variety of internet options will be available, with the highest being 2Gig (2,000Mbps). Residents can also choose service bundles including TDS TV®+, the company’s full-featured TV product, and phone services. TDS offers businesses dedicated connections, TDS TV+, and managed IP—TDS’ hosted VoIP communications solution.

TDS recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the city of Eau Claire to build a fiber network in that community. The company also announced the launch of its fiber network in Wisconsin’s Fox Cities and recently completed projects in both Wausau and Stevens Point. TDS has been doing business in the state for 53 years and serves customers in 32 states.
