Starlink Quietly Introduces $40 Monthly Plan

Starlink is offering a new home internet plan that’s as cheap — or cheaper — than some of the most affordable plans in the U.S.

The new plan offers speeds up to 100 Mbps for $40 per month, with no upfront equipment costs. Upload speeds aren’t limited, but are usually much slower on satellite and cable internet plans alike.

Paired with recent claims of a significant speed increase, this new plan could make Starlink a viable option for customers who’ve been limited to slow DSL or 4G LTE fixed wireless.

Starlink published information about the new plan on its X account and on a support page on November 10. The quiet announcement is typical of Starlink, which limits most news releases to X.

Whether consumers can get the new $40 plan depends on where they live. If it’s available, it will show up during checkout or in a customer’s existing Starlink account.

The new “100 Residential Mbps” plan is one of the cheapest ways to get Starlink service, but customers’ costs and speeds depend highly on where they live and which equipment they use.

In areas with a high concentration of residential Starlink customers, customers may have to pay extra fees at startup and will have access to only the most expensive plans. Then, their speeds will be subject to congestion and may be much slower than 100 Mbps during busy evening areas.

In areas with fewer users, customers may have access to this new $40 plan with speeds up to 100 Mbps or the “Residential Lite” plan, which offers speeds up to 250 Mbps for $80 per month.

Customers taking their Starlink connection on the go have another set of options. The Starlink Mini dish now costs less than a Standard dish but works in motion and requires less electrical power to function. Customers can get a plan with a 50GB data cap for $50 per month, or spring for the unlimited plan for a monthly cost of $165.
