Sprint Partners With LUS Fiber for Wireless Resale

Lafayette, Louisiana, Oct 17, 2011 – Sprint today announced a unique collaboration with LUS Fiber to provide wireless products and services to the customers of the community-owned network at special discounted rates, subject to conditions.

Any qualified new or current LUS Fiber business customers or current Sprint residential customers that use LUS Fiber services are eligible for 10 percent discounts on Sprint wireless service plans*.

Business customers who buy equipment and services for their employees are eligible for additional savings including:

  • waived activation fees
  • discounted device upgrades
  • 20% discount on accessories at the time of activation

According to Lori-Anne Hill, Director-Federal & Public Sector Sales for Sprint, this relationship is the first of its kind for Sprint — partnering with a utility to offer wireless services at a discount.  Sprint’s decision to partner with LUS Fiber stems largely from the city of Lafayette’s impressive Fiber-To-The-Home-and-Business infrastructure and the city’s foresight to bring that technology to the city. Sprint has also invested in Lafayette, improving network performance in and around the area. “Sprint has upgraded its networks throughout Southwest Louisiana, and we expect to continue to build and improve facilities going forward.  This agreement affords Sprint the opportunity to collaborate with LUS Fiber to give them an edge in the competitive telecommunications marketplace.”

She added, “This pact with LUS Fiber also extends Sprint’s reach directly to LUS Fiber’s valued customers, and it opens a channel for Sprint to market its products and services to consumers and businesses.  This partnership also opens the door to other mutually beneficial business opportunities for Sprint and LUS.”

“To have an internationally-acclaimed company like Sprint reach out to Lafayette to form this relationship is yet another testament to the value of Lafayette’s investment in its fiber optic network,” said Joey Durel, President-Lafayette City-Parish Government.  “Through LUS Fiber, we have already improved broadband capacity to every public school in Lafayette Parish, created a better and faster way for University faculty and students to share information and we have also seen new economic growth in our community.  We look forward to working together with Sprint to develop new ways to provide Lafayette residents and businesses with the strongest wireless/fiber communications link in the nation.”

“The Sprint/LUS Fiber collaboration will offer additional savings to LUS Fiber customers who use Sprint’s wireless products and services”, said Terry Huval, Director-Lafayette Utilities System and LUS Fiber. “For us, and for Lafayette, this is a huge win-win.”
