Skype’s Share of International Calling is Surging

SkypeAlready “the largest provider of cross-border communications in the world, by far” Skype’s share of international calling minutes surged upwards in 2009, according to Telegeography’s annual report on international telecommunications.

Skype’s share of international calling minutes shot up 50% in 2009, to 12%, according to the report. Skype-to-Skype international calling minutes increased 21 billion, a growth rate of nearly 100 percent. ‘I knew Skype hit a tipping point when my grandmother started using it,’ Telegeography VP of strategy Stefan Beckert was quoted as commenting on Skype Blog.
