The Shenandoah Telecommunications Company, Shentel, has rebranded recently acquired Horizon Telcom as Glo Fiber and Glo Fiber Business.
The newly christened Glo Fiber serves businesses in Ohio and nearby states and residential customers in the Ohio communities of Chillicothe, Circleville, Lancaster, and Washington Courthouse.
It provides FTTH and XGS-PON-based services to about 250,000 homes and businesses with symmetrical speeds as fast as 5 Gbps. No long-term contracts are required of residential customers.
Glo Fiber Business serves enterprises, educational institutions, small businesses and wholesale customers. It features an MEF-certified network with approximately 15,400 route miles of fiber. Services include dedicated internet access and high-speed Ethernet with speeds up to 100 Gbps, dark fiber leasing, and managed network and security solutions, the company said.
The deal combining Shentel and Horizon was announced last October. It joined two companies with long histories.
Shentel was founded in 1902 and serves Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Kentucky. Horizon Telcom dates back to 1895.
Shentel acquired Horizon Telcom for $385 million, consisting of $305 million in cash and $80 million of Shentel common stock. The acquisition closed at the beginning of this month.
“Glo Fiber and Glo Fiber Business have earned a strong reputation for providing superior local customer service and dependable broadband network solutions across our Mid-Atlantic markets,” Ed McKay, Shentel’s chief operating officer, said in a press release. “We are excited to bring our brand, network reliability, and customer focus to our new service areas in Ohio.”
The rebranding continues a trend of broadband providers branding their services that emphasizes fiber broadband.
