Robocalls up month-over-month, down year-over-year: Report

Robocalls moved up significantly last month, according to the latest Robocall Index report from YouMail. The March robocall volume for U.S. consumers was just over 4.2 billion, up nearly double digits (9.8%) from February, but down 12.5% from the same month in robocalls in March 2025.

The March figure was also the largest amount of monthly robocalls since July 2025. The increase from the previous month was partially due to March having 10% more days. So the volume based on a daily and per-second basis remained virtually unchanged. March averaged 135.7 million robocalls/day and 1,571 robocalls/second, the report said, down less than 1% from February’s 136.8 million robocalls/day and 1,583 robocalls/second.

Though the volume of robocalls increased during the month, the good news is that the increase was primarily due to more legitimate robocalls like notifications and payment reminders. Increases were seen across all major robocall categories, the report said, including a 17% increase in notifications, a 14% increase in payment reminders, and a smaller 5% in unwanted telemarketing and scam calls.

“It’s disappointing to see the spike in robocalls in March, after six consecutive months averaging less than 4 billion robocalls,” YouMail CEO Alex Quilici said in a prepared statement about the report.

February’s 3.8 billion robocalls was down from the previous month and from the same month in 2025, according to last month’s report. The February 2026 total was down 1.3% from January 2026, and down a significant 14% from February of 2025. However, the month’s total was still a little less than 100 million above October’s 2025 multi-year low.
