Report: North American Multi-Play Service Penetration Hits 43%

mobile media consumptionThough there will be a slowdown in service adoption, North America will remain the largest multi-play service market through 2023, according to a new report about multi-play service penetration from GlobalData. Multri-play services include bundles of broadband, voice, video, wireless and the like.

Double, triple and quadruple play service bundles are becoming much more commonplace, the research firm said.  meaning a household penetration of 43%, just behind Europe with 48%.

Multi-Play Service Penetration
Still far behind are Africa and Middle East, with a household penetration level of 5%, GlobalData said. However, there are great disparities in many regions. For example, household penetration in Latin America is near 30%, less than half of that of North America (61%).

“Robust fixed broadband infrastructure and extensive network coverage have led to greater adoption of multiplay services in North America,” said Eulalia Marin-Sorribes, technology analyst at GlobalData, in a prepared statement. “In addition, discounted pricing adopted by operators and the inclusion of value-added services as part of multiplay bundles have also played an important role, helping to raise adoption levels historically. “However, market maturity and declining customer interest in linear pay-TV amid the proliferation of over the top (OTT) video applications have started to slow down adoption in more recent years.”
