Global sales of 2G and 3G femtocells rose 12% quarter-to-quarter in 2Q, surging 43% higher year-over-year, according to Infonetic Research’s latest femtocell market report. Double-digit gains were seen across all market segments—consumer, enterprise and public access, with consumer femtocells accounting for more than 50% of 2Q market revenue.
Alcatel-Lucent maintained the revenue-leading position it earned in 2012’s first quarter in the highly competitive W-CDMA/HSPA femtocell market segment. Cisco/ip.access ran a close second.
W-CDMA/HSPA 3G femtocell revenue is growing at an 84% five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for the 2011-2016 period. Revenue in this market segment is forecast to account for 95% of the 3G femtocell market by 2016, according to Infonetics.
Airvana continues to lead the market when it comes to higher-priced CDMA2000/EV-DO femtocells, with Samsung ranking second by a comfortable margin.
“Double-digit revenue growth returned to the femtocell market in the 2nd quarter following a minor seasonal dip the previous quarter,” noted Richard Webb, directing analyst for microwave, mobile offload, and mobile broadband devices at Infonetics Research. “The combination of attractive product feature sets and price points, wider service availability, a growing customer base, and rising shipment volumes is proof positive that the femtocell market has long-term viability.”
