Consolidation in the telecom industry continues with NISC announcing the acquisition of Quintrex. Both Quintrex and NISC provide billing and other software services to the tier 2 and 3 telecom sector. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Quintrex’s 60 customers will join NISC’s customer base of 550, which includes telcos, utilities, and other service providers. The move illustrates ongoing consolidation among vendors in the telecom industry, particularly among software billing companies. NISC recently purchased a smaller billing provider, Computer Systems LLC, and CHR Solutions has been active as well, acquiring Martin Group and Western Data Pro.
“At this stage of my life, it’s time for me to begin a transition of Quintrex to assure its customers and employees have a solid, innovative and long-term software solution in a changing and competitive marketplace,” said Leland J. Smithson, president, owner and co-founder of Quintrex in a press release.
“NISC is pleased to have finalized this transaction, which brings together two organizations with similar values and a commitment to customer service. We see a great opportunity in expanding our product offerings across multiple platforms,” said Vern Dosch, NISC’s President and CEO.
With this and the Computer Systems LLC acquisition, NISC appears to be trying to strengthen and grow its telecom practice to complement its broad utility practice. I suspect these moves by NISC and CHR Solutions will encourage other billing vendors to sniff around and ensure they keep pace, leading to potentially more consolidation.
