A slate of new applications and services, promising network automation and other tools for broadband providers, are due for public demonstrations at the upcoming Fiber Connect conference in Nashville.
The range of uses for what the Fiber Broadband Association calls “proofs of concept” include tools for networks — including automation, monitoring, and optimization — and other applications intended to increase revenue, improve the customer experience, and much more.
These new applications and services were created by a mix of technology companies, providers, associations, and other industry vendors.
Following is the full list of proof-of-concept demonstrations that the Fiber Broadband Association announced:
- “Empowering Connectivity: Collaborative Approach to Overcoming Broadband Challenges in Unserved and Underserved Communities”: Network implementation with service differentiation and tools for increased revenue. (Ciena, Heights Telecom, Cambridge Industries Group Inc, and Axiros)
- “B2C Value-Added Services Automation to Maximize CSP Fiber Investments”: Network automation that reduces operating expenses, uses open API to lower IT costs, and helps bring new products to market faster. (Incognito, Harmonic, KAON Broadband)
- “Fiber Optic Sensing in Telecom Applications”: Enables broadband companies to monitor their physical plant for threats and/or damage so they can mitigate adverse events. (Fiber Optic Sensing Association (FOSA), Luna Innovations, and Underline Infrastructure)
- “Corteca Cloud as a USP-Based, Multi-Vendor Wi-Fi Management + Device Management Solution”: A multi-vendor platform for device and application management on third-party Wi-Fi networks. (Nokia and Singel)
- “Empowering Interoperability to Accelerate Fiber to the Home and Deliver Service Excellence”: Helps integrate devices, managed services, and systems for connected homes, to increase efficiency and time to market. (Calix and Zyxel Communications)
- “Wholesale Open Access for FTTH Networks”: Enhanced API and user interface for wholesale fiber networks to increase take rate and return on investment. (Nokia and Condor Technologies)
- “Empowering Connectivity: Enhancing Short-Term Rentals with Flexible Internet Packages”: A billing and customer management system for short-term rental owners to add services and increase customer satisfaction. (CompaxDigital)
- “Free Space Optical Communication”: Highlights how wireless optical communication (WOC) technology can bridge the gaps in middle-mile broadband infrastructure. (Taara)
The 2024 Fiber Connect conference begins on July 28.
