Minerva Networks is expanding its Over-the-Top (OTT) video presence with the acquisition of TVBLOB of Milan, Italy, the Alviso, California-based company announced today.
Privately-held TVBLOB develops software for delivery of entertainment services on consumer electronics devices including legacy television and Internet Protocol (IP) devices. It’s successfully deployed its software platform with consumer equipment manufacturers, which is right in line with Minerva’s own principal business.
TVBLOB’s technology will help Minerva’s customers reach more devices over more networks, according to the press release. TVBLOB’s employees will become part of a newly formed Minerva Italia subsidiary.
Minerva’s IPTV middleware platform delivers TV programming across IP networks for more than 200 service providers. Both its xTVFusion and TVBLOB’s BLOBbox platform are based on Linux and support open standards.
“The know-how acquired over the past several years makes TVBLOB one of the main actors in the over-the-top television landscape”, said Mauro Bonomi, Minerva Networks’ CEO. “The combination of Minerva’s service management platform with TVBLOB’s over-the-top video solutions will result in the most advanced and scalable platform for the deployment of television services across multiple networks and devices.”
