Midco® Awarded South Dakota Broadband Grant for Lincoln County

3/30/21 – Sioux Falls, SD – Through a partnership with the Connect SD Broadband program, Midco is bringing high speed broadband to underserved areas in rural Lincoln County. The South Dakota Governor’s Office of Economic Development is utilizing federal CARES Act funding to address gaps in broadband coverage across the state, and Midco has once again been chosen as a grant recipient.

“Access to reliable broadband is vital, as the current environment has highlighted. As families continue to utilize connectivity for school, work, health care, and more, Midco is proud to be expanding our network to address their needs,” said Andrew Curley, Midco’s Director of Government Relations. “As we continue our goal of bringing our services to more South Dakotans, we are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Governor Noem’s Connect SD Broadband program.”

Midco was awarded $546,235 to deploy FTTP (fiber to the premises) service to 189 homes and 15 businesses in rural areas surrounding Tea and Harrisburg, SD. Construction of this extension of Midco’s existing network in these communities is slated to begin later this spring. By the end of 2021, services capable of 5 Gbps will be available to these customers.
