HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Aug 02, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) — ADTRAN(R), Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN), a leading provider of next-generation networking solutions, today announced that CTS Telecom, an ILEC and CLEC serving southwestern Michigan, has selected the industry’s fastest growing access platform, the Total Access(R) 5000, for a complete network upgrade. The upgrade will allow CTS to address higher-speed data demands and evolve the network to support Voice over IP (VoIP) to its new softswitch. ADTRAN will also provide the core technology for a major fiber roll-out funded in part by a Broadband Stimulus award.
As a result of this project, CTS customers will have access to triple-play services including premium HD channels and Video on Demand (VOD) through their broadband connection. Business customers will be serviced via Active Ethernet providing dedicated service and guaranteeing not only high bandwidth, but low delay and high reliability as well. With the need to offer a variety of services in the same geography, CTS’ ability to provide multiple services from the same platform was a major benefit. CTS will now be able to roll out services quickly and begin generating revenue rapidly. It also minimizes the effort required to train staff and maintain their network.
“We needed to upgrade the legacy DLCs in our ILEC territories and replace line units in conjunction with the softswitch migration at our CLEC. The Total Access 5000 was the perfect solution for both applications,” said Chad Colliver, project manager, CTS Telecom. “This platform provides the flexibility and scalability we needed to increase the efficiency of our network, provide faster DSL services to our customers, all while positioning us for future growth with next-generation services.”
“Service providers, like CTS Telecom, are benefiting from ADTRAN’s ability to support an unprecedented combination of next-generation and standard applications from a single platform. This network upgrade will allow CTS to add Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP), Carrier Ethernet, and other advanced services by simply adding modules to installed systems,” said P. Steven Locke, vice president of sales, service providers, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. “Service provider customers, like CTS Telecom, understand that as their network demands evolve, the Total Access 5000’s scalability and flexibility will enable them to adapt quickly to rapid changes in capacity demands.”
