January 29, 2016 — WAYNESBORO, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Lumos Networks Corp. (“Lumos Networks” or the “Company”) (Nasdaq:LMOS), a fiber-based service provider of data, voice and IP-based telecommunication services in the Mid-Atlantic region, today announced the availability of Gigabit broadband speed for residential and small business customers in Botetourt County. The Gigabit launch allows broadband internet speeds of up to 1,000 megabits per second within the fiber to the premise network. This marks the second gigabit broadband service market for Lumos Networks, following the successful launch in May of 2015 in the Alleghany Highlands (Va).
Lumos Networks is the only service provider offering gigabit broadband speeds in these Virginia markets. The Company expects that its entire ILEC fiber to the premise footprint will be gigabit enabled by the end of 2016.
“I am very proud of the fact that Lumos Networks is the first service provider of any kind to offer 1 Gigabit internet speeds, which is the fastest in our region,” said Diego Anderson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the residential and small business segment for Lumos Networks. “This announcement only furthers our leading position in this region as customers increasingly migrate to higher broadband applications. In the third quarter of 2015, the number of Lumos fiber broadband subscribers increased by over 31% year-over-year and the average broadband speed increased by over 50% to nearly 30 Mbps.”
Mr. Anderson continued, “Our customers continue to ask for faster and faster broadband speeds with increased reliability, on more and more devices. They want more flexibility and more choices. And as the traditional cable TV model continues to evolve, we believe our customers will seek more Over the Top (“OTT”) solutions for accessing their favorite content, requiring greater internet speeds and exceptionally high service quality. We are listening closely to customers…and we are delivering.”
